One of the men that works in my office gave us all chocolates at Christmas.

His wife had made them and they were really good!

They were creatively decorated, exquisitely presented and above all, delicious!  Here is one lady that could definitely quit her day job and become a chocolatier.  I’m sure Valentine’s Day alone would keep her going for the rest of the year!

His tricks, my treats…

I love Halloween.  It’s one of my favourite times of the year.  THE favourite if it occurred in the summer but then you know me and hot weather.  Halloween is a time when you can dress up and be goofy.  If I had children they’d probably be hiding by now to keep from being subjected to my creative endeavours.  So once again it’s my dog that has to step (actually kicking and screaming) in.  Lucky for him it’s only in my doodles that he has to be “dressed” up.  Yes I do love Halloween and the fact that there’s candy involved (often chocolate candy) makes this occasion all the better.

Easter Charade

Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.  And while I respect those that put their trust and faith in a higher being I myself have long since given up any hope of a Divine helping hand.  Too many unanswered prayers I guess.  I love Easter (a holiday involving chocolate) but it’s still an enigma to me.  Where do the rabbits and eggs come from?  What exactly is an Easter egg?

Of course the same can be said about Christmas.  Again a religious holiday but with Christmas trees, decorations, Santa and his reindeer…how does he get around in the southern parts of the world where there’s no snow?  And don’t get me started on how obsessed we all are with giving presents.  The good thing about these holidays is that we all tend to get along a little better and become more lighthearted around these times.  So whether you are celebrating for religious reasons or for what they have become associated with down the years, have a lovely holiday!

Why can’t I have a hot?

I have a cold and it’s my own fault.  I’ve always been lucky in that I hardly ever get what’s “going around”.  But if I get chilled all bets are off.  Just last week we had an unseasonably warm spell and like everyone else I decided to go without a hat.  Well everybody else went without hat, coat, gloves, boots…but a hat was enough for me to relinquish.  Big mistake.  By the next afternoon my throat was sore and I was burning up.  I always dreamt of a “sick” day at home in bed watching old movies, drinking tea and eating chocolate.  Well that wasn’t going to happen.  In fact the thought of chocolate made me gag so you know I was at death’s door.  Now if it had been hot I would never have caught a chill or a “cold”.  Cold.  I don’t even like the word.  I don’t like cold drinks.  I drink “un-chilled” white wine.  I only have an air-conditioner because of my dog and I have to bundle up when it’s on.  I don’t even have an ice-cube tray (actually I do but it’s for storing my watercolor paints).  Okay I know that all seems a bit extreme but I really would rather have a “hot” than a “cold” if given the choice.

Chocolates…for me?

Yes it’s Valentine’s Day and I got chocolates! However I bought them myself since I’m fresh out of beaus at the moment. How sad is that? Well my dog is always with me and he’s a “fella” so I’m not really alone. I didn’t get the heart-shaped box either since they’re only from me to me. Any good box of chocolates will do and they’re not usually as expensive. This isn’t the most traditional Valentine’s Day but it works for me. And the good thing about sharing Valentine’s Day with your dog is that they can’t have chocolate…
